I just started a tank 3 weeks ago and im having trouble to get the gravity up. Now its at 1.018 and I want it at about 1.024. we tried pouring saltwater in there but it didnt work. Is there a way to raise it faster? I have a reef tank so they say it needs to be higher.

Dont know of any way other than salt. What kind of salt are you using?

In this hobby you never want to do anything fast. The way to do it is to remove 10% of your water and add back water that is at the target number, in your case .024. Then test the tank to see how much that raised it. If it was 1 or 2 sg fine, wait one day and allow everything to acclimate and then repeat the process until you reach your end reading.

How are you measuring your salinity/specific gravity?

Have you had your hydrometer measured against a refractometer to see if it is reading true, your LFS will usually do this? If you can afford it I would recommend getting a refractometer as hydrometers can be completely out and refractometers are easier to calibrate.

If your hydrometer is reading true then I would agree with unclejed and do water changes.

Did you test the salinity of the water before putting it in? Do you know what the LFS salinity is at?

to check it, just put it in salt-free water. It should read 1.000
