I heard a doozy on the radio today. It was an interview of the mayor of Newark, N.J., Cory Booker (NOT GETTING POLITICAL, FOLKS!!), a young man on the job since 2006. He's 40 now. Very young for a mayor.

Anyways, he's a Rhodes Scholar, B.A. from Stanford, J.D. from Yale Law. When I heard this quote, it really blew me away. The quote is: "we must never let our inability to do everything undermine our determination to do something."

The purpose of this thread is hear the quotes that have touched you--it can be from a politician, but as you're all aware, political threads aren't permitted. If you'd like to quote a politician, feel free--but do your best to remember the intent of this thread, or sadly, it'll have to be closed. State your quote, and why you like it--plain and simple. :)

Many of you might know Benjamin Franklin is one of the most quoted men in history. He's related some brilliant observations during his day.

Some of my personal favorites are from Einstein, Franklin, Winston Churchill, (“We are masters of the unsaid words, but slaves of those we let slip out”), Steven Wright the comedian ("My friend the clown died last week, all his colleagues came to his funeral in one car."), Bob Dylan, ("My love she's like some raven at my window with a broken wing.") and some others.

So let's hear your favorite quotations. :)

So, your'e a perfectionist like me Larry? And sometimes it gets you going?:hehe:
I don't really have anything to contribute to the thread though. Quotes tend to last a short time with me for some reason. Same with jokes.

Yogi had some of the best quotes ever.

    A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore.
Congratulations. I knew the record would stand until it was broken.
I never said most of the things I said.
If people don't want to come out to the ball park, nobody's gonna stop 'em.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it.
It ain't over till it's over.

He was one of the best.

For the deeply existential among you...

"Wherever you go, there you are" I can't find the original source. I probably saw it on a bumper sticker but it resonates with me.

Here's one that my kids all know by heart... "Life in not fair"
the full qoute is "Life isn't fair. It's just fairer than death, that's all." William Goldman

And my all time favorite by the noted philosopher... "Life is tough but it's tougher if you're stupid." John Wayne

Mines not funny.... But I stumbled this at work downtown Chicago. I stopped and read and cheesily... I was inspired. This can be applied to our fish tanks (equipment, products)and at we all do for a living.

    IRRELEVANT,

I cannot remember who said it, but my favorite quote is:

"History is not what has happened in the past, but only what we know and write about"

I like this one by rally car driver Colin McRae:
"We live for a good time, not a long time".

But the king of quotes IMHO is Thomas Jefferson. Doing my best to pick 3Reef friendly ones here ;):

"Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it"

"He who knows best knows how little he knows"

"I do not take a single newspaper, nor read one a month, and I feel myself infinitely the happier for it"

"Politics is such a torment that I advise everyone I love not to mix with it"
