I got an acro that looks just like this. It's a little bigger and is more green. Every since I got it (2days ago) it hasn't had much PE like it had in the store. Just the very tiny tips are showing. Is it still just acclimating? How long should I expect to wait to see good PE? Sorry, it's my first acro! Params: nitrate, nitrite, ammonia 0. Calcium 480 alk 10 ph 8.3 phos 0. I will post a pic when I go home. Also what kind is it? The lfs didn't know he just said it was assorted.

I believe Clonefarmer once posted that was a Green Slimmer I could be wrong.

Anyway, give it several days to show any real PE. If after that try adjusting the flow. Also look for PE at night.

I would only get concerned if after a week or two you are not seeing the PE that you witnessed in the store.

It's in the upper third of the tank with a 150w 14000k mh. I have 4 birds nests and they all opened right away! They are open 24/7 I have a plating Monti and a branching that usually only extend in the night. The acro had some PE the first day but a cleaner shrimp was checking it out with it's antennae and the acro was most displeased and tucked away the polyps. The flow on it is the same for the birds nest. Should the acro have more flow than a birds nest? There is no PE at night either buts it has only been 2 days now.

The flow you have to the birds nest should be fine for that type of acropora if indeed it's a slimmer. Just give it more time to acclimate. The PE of my acropora changes noticeable throughout the day and night and from day to day. Today is a good PE day.

Now if this is a Tortuosa the PE will not be as exaggerated. Comparison, first image Milleopora, second Tortuosa.

Anyway it will be a lot easier to figure it out once you put up an image.

The Green Acro I have is at the same level and flow as my Birdsnest. The Birsdnest always has Great PE, but the Acro doesn't. Most of the time the Acro just looks a little fuzzy, more so in the morning when the lights come on. It's definately the most sensitive coral in my tank when it comes to PE. Despite the lack of PE the coral grows really well.
