My Green Open Brain is fading somewhat. I have it placed on the sandbed in my BC29 with 144w PC lighting. I've had this brain since October 15th. I feed it 2-3 times a week with a sliver of Silverside soaked in Coral vitamins and it eats everytime. Would the fading be from lack of light or too much light? All test readings are good.

How old are your lights? They may need to be replaced! Are your water parameters in check? Do you have an excess of dissolved organics/gelbstoff/turbidity possibly altering the color of your coral?
    Try adding carbon also...

My lights are only 3 months old, 1 Actinic, 1 50/50, and 2 10k's. I'm thinking that maybe it's not fading but the light colored Green of the Brain is from the spectrum of the lighting. The Brain is all puffed up throughout the day and eats like a champ. I have Carbon running. Other than the light colored Green it seems healthy. I could move it to a shaded area to see if that helps or maybe since I've had it since mid-October could it be still acclimating to my lighting?

It is possible that the coral is still acclimating to your lights! I have and know of corals, such as montipora and acropora species that sometimes take months before they color up to the beauty they can portray. Yes, the colors associated with coral has alot to do with the bulb intensity and coloration of the bulb as well as a myriad of other factors!

can we see a pic maybe? so by fading you mean bleaching out? or is it physically retracting from the outer edges?

mine bleached after a month and took several months to adjust and return.green open brains need alot of light but prefer the sandbed so that sometimes is a problem.

I think it is just acclimating still cause it has grown some since I purchased it and it's always puffed up and eats like a champ. I saw the tentacles comes out for the first time the other night and I've always got friends asking what that is
