I just got a skimmer from a guy who had a bad case of green bubble algae. The tanks was taken apart and the skimmer has not been used for some time. Do you think if I run the skimmer in my sump I will get the green bubble algae in my tank. I would like to use it but not if it is going to cause problems for me. I was thinking about running really hot water though it to clean it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Soak with white vinegar, scrub what you can, and then rinse with luke warm water at lease 3 times, wipe, & let it dry.

Set it up in a bucket or other container that will hold enough vinegar/water solution for it to operate and let it run for a couple hours. This will help clean the pump and any areas that are hard to reach.
