personally i feel if you put the fish threw the hell of cycling... that fish deserves to stay in your tank and live a happy life. i think it stinks that people cycle with fish than take the fish back to the store .... :(

I even got her a mate after the cycle. She’s about to have babies.

To be fair the only reason I want to take the fish back to the store is so that it doesn't get killed during the cycle.

    I wouldn't buy "disposable" fish.

Opinions may vary, but it doesn't change the fact it causes unnecessary discomfort.

I guess I've never understood why someone in the hobby who loves fish would want to cause unnecessary harm to one... it just doesn't make sense to me.

Now, I know some are instructed to do so by LFSs and old school hobbyists... but if you then learn it's cruel, why do you still decide to do it? Serious question......

And make no doubt there IS no doubt it causes discomfort and damage as evidenced by necropsy findings and measured cortisol levels with exposure to ammonia. This has been actually studied due to it's importance in aquaculture and the food industry.

So, my question is. Now you know it causes pain and damage DESPITE that he very well may live through it.... do you still think it's an acceptable practice? If yes... why?

Yes, I know. There's more people in this thread though.

And you never actually answered the question above.... if you know it hurts, why do it? The hurt thing is not debatable... it's studied and proven. "It lived through it", isn't an answer to what I am asking.

    It hurts. So why?
