    I know.

I like to go hunting and fishing, So causing pain isn’t new to me. I’m just so used to it, I really don’t care. That’s just my opinion.
If you don’t mind, I would like to ask you something. Why is it when someone is talking about using a fish to cycle a tank, you feel the need to give your opinion, than keep trying to convince others to think the same thing. Why? I don’t have a problem with the way you view this. I have a problem when somebody tries to push his or her opinion on me, and try to make me feel like a bed person.

I was trying to have a discussion while providing facts. My motive is not to make you feel bad because of your actions. I wasn't pointing out you, as this isn't your thread, but a thread on cycling with live fish. My question was legit. If you don't want to talk about it, why participate in the thread in the first place?

You can give your opinion, but I can't give mine?

What about some others on this forum? Why do you do it? I'm not pointing fingers... I'm curious. If it's from lack of education, that's one reason I/we would like to help with.

I'm not trying to push an opinion on you. I was not addressing you directly, it was an open forum question that you chose to answer to. I have nothing to do with you feeling bad. I was providing information from research studies that maybe not everyone has access to. If that makes you feel bad, maybe you should re-examine the issue.

    I used to.

Then I got a whiff of ammonia one day, and realized I couldn't stand the smell for a minute, let alone weeks on end, and wouldn't subject another living thing to that experience.

    I have

    I have only set up a salt water tank under 4ft x 18 x 15 , once
I have always cycled using a YTB - my current pair ( yep 2 in a 5ft )are now 2 years and 7 months into their stay with me

I set up a 5 gallon nano - just using live rock, sand and water from my existing set up , tank is 5 months old and still does not have a fish in it

    my opinion is

with 60 gallons or more of water, the waste from a YTB will peak your ammonia at a certain value (I cant recall what it was in my case)
in a tank of lower volume (less dilution) then that peak would be higher

thus I feel that tank size and volume is key when considering cruelty aspect?
to have cycled my 5 gallon using a YTB felt wrong to me so I avoided it

i just tried to cycle the tank with 3 green chromis fish on advice from the lfs and they only lasted 2 days :( the last one died this mourning. so i wouldnt give that advice again. ill wait and let the tank cycle naturally i guess. no point in killing off my fish lol. im not saying anything bad about people that use this method at all its just not for me anymore. 1 try was enough for me.
