    He aclimated into the tank fine but when i turn the lights off he darts rapidly around the tank any idea why?

    Depending on how bright your lighting is, he may be a bit shocked until his eyes adjust when they first turn off.

    Like a lot of other Wrasse species, Cleaners tend to hide very well at night. Mine found a hole in a rock just large enough he can fit into it. Some actually bury themselves in the sand.

    FWIW, I hope you have a cover; they can be avid jumpers when spooked or harassed by other fish.

    I watched him burrow into the sand last night. I have no lid im thinking about making something out of a acrylic sheet.

    thats very lucky, id love to see mine do that. my cleaner near night time swims around happily one second then, BOOM! vanished till next morning.

    I have a glass cover on mine. Just make sure it's not airtight; you don't want to hamper your gas exchange.

    It may be a few days before you actually see much of him. Once he's accustomed to his new environment though, he'll only hide at night.
