Nah, phyto blooms aren't harmful enough to make you get rid of your fish but they certainly are unsightly. When was the last time you changed your carbon?

Si, PO4, NO3 feed the unwanted algae. seachem gel or rowaphos will do the trick. the canister filter is your main problem with the unwanted algae. try taking it off line and cleaning it real good with bleach and replace the filter.

Hey RG, I assume that by "bio-wheel" filter, the original poster means that they have a hang on filter? Not sure though?

Both the bio-wheel and seaclone are hangonback filters. I just changed my carbon last week. I only use RO water when doing water changes, I will clean the canister filter to see if that helps.

So you are running a cannister as well as a hang on filter? Is the Seaclone an actual filter or a protein skimmer? If it's a filter, are you running a protein skimmer?

i would try a UV sterrilizer, just about the best thing for cloudy water.

OK, if you can add phosphate removing media in your canister filter, go ahead and do that after you've cleaned it. If you've got any filter sponges in your filters, make sure that you clean them with salt water as cleaning them with fresh water will kill off the bacteria that resides on/in the sponges.
