Basically I have to start this thread out with a "WTF!?"

So a couple months ago I added 2 new small, soft coral frags (Star Pollip & Frog Spawn). Since their addition to the tank, everything has been going good, my Star Pollips seem to be thriving & my Frog Spawn had been as well.

Every morning I take a peek in the tank before I head off to work, about a week ago, I took my morning peep & everything was gravy. My green frog spawn was fully out & just enjoying the current. Well I get home from work later that day and I come to find that my frog spawn was like "peace I'm out!" to his little white tube that he was nestled in! It actually took me 2 days to find him, but sure enough my frog spawn is out and about roaming & rolling along the live sand floor. (He's very small now that he's out I might add).

I tried putting his original home (the abandoned white tube like thing) down by him & he seemed to check it out but had no interest in returning to it, basically for days now he just drifts along the bottom to & fro. He doesn't look dead or dying, just small. Also his color seems normal & everything...

Long story short, what do I do!? (if anything?) Can he live without his orginal tube? Will he find a new place to call home? Is he dying? I didn't even know this could happen so any ideas anyone has would be appreciated! Thanks Guys!

    Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........................

I am not sure what we are talking about here? Frog spawns don't live in tubes, nor can they move around. The are a large polyped stony coral that grows it's own skeleton. Are you talking about a tube worm perhaps?

Are you saying that the fleshy part of the Frogspawn fell out of the stony coral part? I've never seen my frogspawn do this before. If this is the case you could take the fleshy part and put an elastic band over the hard coral part to keep it from falling out.

Some pics would be helpfull to confirm though.

sorry for the bad description guys, oh & I can't do pics right now because I'm at work but let me see if I can clarify...

oh wait, ok I found a pic on google that may help explain. sorry I have to link...

So if you look at the picture on the link, The frogspawn almost looks like a tree, well basically my green ditched it's trunk like base, which now looks like a hollow white bone and has shrunken signifigantly down to about the size of a quarter. It now just rolls around like a tumbleweed along the bottom.

It now looks about like this: ( No "base" , alot smaller and almost resembles a very small green bubble anename. note: not exactly like this because this is not the same breed, but hopefully it helps give you the idea.)

I hope that explains a little better. I will see what I can do about getting some pics of my tank when I get home. Thanks again guys!

yes, exactly! I've never seen it happen before either!

So it's ok to rubberband him back to the hard coral part!?

it wasnt happy at all, either your water or flow or lighting was pissing it off bad, so it decided to relocate. i heard some stories of polyps droping off and trying to find a new place but its the first time heard of frogspawn doing it.

look up polyp bailout its most likely a water issue i think

i recommend you fill this out and see if we can help you find the cause

edit: also i think theres very little chance the polyp will make it unless you have a frag tank with low flow and perfect parameters

Good Recommendation Sostoudt, just read an article on Polyp Bailout and makes sence. The article did say that if the polyp finds better conditions it will regrow its coral skeleton, but it also said it is a last ditch effort for survival.Must be some parameters out of wack.

First time I've heard of this, K+
