    Hmmm, is there a chance that the Rubbermaid garbage can I bought and dedicated for water is leeching silicates into the water? I don't keep it in there for more than 2 days and I check for phosphates and nitrates before adding the water to my tank..

    So it's flake food that leaves behind more junk?

    I am using pellets and I already restricted the food. I feed them a small pinch and then I wait for them to finish chewing before giving them a second pinch. Anything that hits the bottom is usually gobbled up my my Nassarius snails

    Yes, you could put it that way. Check with the manufacturer of the flake food to see if they contain Nitrate and/or Phosphate.
