I just took a rock with some hair algae on it from my Aquapod and put it into the refugium for my new cube. Was this a bad idea. Will the hair algae stay in the fuge or am I asking for trouble?

given the nutrients are available, the gha will grow anywhere. Its not like your "introducing" gha to your cube because it was technically already in there. its nothing to worry about and if anything, the gha will remove any trace nutrients in your cube while its in the sump.
If any grows in the DT its not because you added the gha rock but because you have excess nutrients in the water column

Thank you very much. That is what I was hoping to hear.

do you use ro/di and did you have a diatom bloom in the cube yet?

I used about 50 percent water from my Aquapod and 50 percent natural sea water. Everything but the sand came from an established system. Sand was new. I have seen a bit of diatom growth on the rocks along the right side of the tank. I have yet to see any growth on the glass or sand.

One thing I know I did wrong was fill the tank with tap water and run it for a week to check for leaks. There was a small amount of it left in the tank when I switched out for salt water. I am surrounded by agricultural lands and the nitrate reading in our well water is off the charts. This means that the new system had around 5ppm of nitrates after filling with salt water reading zero.
