Not as much but a thin green/orange looking carpet is starting to show on my white live sand and dry/live rocks. My tank's been cycling for the past week or so with the 5500K white LED lights on for roughly 6-8 hours a day. Still do not have any cleaner crew or fish to help me out. Should I stir the sand around a bit in those areas? I want coraline algae on my dry rocks now just hair algae.

To early for fish as your only a week into your cycle, cut your light out as you don't need them to cycle and get some phos-ban. Get a phosphate test kit and keep them in check now so you don't have a major algea battle towards the end of your cycle. You will see different algea blooms as your tank develops, usually the first is diatoms, a brown looking rust stuff that will be gone as fast as it appeared. It uses the silicates in your system but will disappear once all the silicates are gone.

You're not going to see much (if any) coralline growth until your tank is cycled and your chemistry is stabilized. Lights won't feed anything but nuisance algae at this point.

The rusty orange looking algae are Diatoms at this point. No worries as these will go away by themselves. Your Coralline will grow shortly, if its been introduced to the tank. You state you have dry rock, any Live Rock in there with Coralline already on it?

THanks everyone. I was getting a bit paranoid. I will be out of town for the week and will have the lights off.
Yes, I have some Fiji and Bali Live Rock with nice coraline algae and some nuisance algae starting to appear.
So no stirring of the sand needed?

It will go away by itself. No need to stir up anything. You could if you wanted it gone from that spot, it may pop up else where. Then disappear alltogether.
