I have had my tank running for a little over a month. I have been reading some of the explanations of green hair algae. This sounds like a description of what I would call what is on my tank. However, none of the pics look anywhere close to what I have. I am getting little buds, if you will, that seem to be attaching themselves to the glass. They are very small but can be found attached to the glass in several places. i seem to be getting some purple coraline blooms on LR as well. Is this possibly some other type algae?

Thanks for the link... I think from the pictures and explanations it is the Bryopsis..the description said it is a sure sign Nitrates are high to watch feeding and use chaeto in sump. Does anyone know anything about this stuff? Does it go away?

Bryopsis is a tough one to get rid of, the way I did it was using chaeto in my fuge. It took a while, but the chaeto finally starved out the Bry.

Do your best to weaken the bryopsis, turn off the light in the DT for a day or two, while keeping the lights on the chaeto in the fuge for 8 to 12 hours each night, this way the chaeto will grow strong and the bry will die away... Be careful pulling this out with your hands as it can spread to all of your tank quickly.

I hope this helps you a little to understand the game you make have to play for the next month. Oh, also lessen feeding, skip days, your fish will be fine, they dont need food every day. They will pick at various pods and algae growing in your tank.

A pic will be really helpful. Sure, bryopsis is really bad. Your solution could be, as simple as, removing the rock that has the bryopsis on it. Depending on the severity of your problem will also determine the solution.

Sure that would help fight it... But understanding the core problem of why its there in the first place was my direction. I like to point out a solution that also teachs someone the reason a problem is there.

But your right pictures do help a lot in helping fix any problem.

I read that turning off your lights for a couple of days a month helps control it.
