All Mandarins need an established tank with pods. The unwritten rule is at least a year old.

just to shed a little light, some of them will eat frozen but not very many of them. I know that aquacultured mandarins are starting to enter the market though. I have had mine for over a year now and have never seen him eat frozen food.....

If going to keep a mandarin, make sure that you have no other fish that eats pods. Some people do well with them and some don't. My first mandarin that I had didn't last long. At the time I didn't have a fuge with pods, now it's a different story.

you should be just fine......it usually takes them around 6 months to starve to death but, you have a large tank with lots of rock with-out a doubt plenty of places for pods to hide

So what do you do for pods to feed them with....buy them and add them to the tank every once in a while or add them to the fuge and they will enter the tank eventually??!!

its better if they are put into the fuge... they will populate in the chaeto and sand and rocks and repopulate
then be carried into the display tank.
