Hello, I have a 20 tall with a two bulb t5 light 1 actinic and one 10k, I reciently bought a green mushroom and it was doing well for the first few weeks then it just skrunched up and has not opened since. Is there any reason it might do this. The tank has a yellow Watchmen, blue damsel, porcelin crab and a a skunk cleaner shrimp, along with 3 zoas and everything else seems to be doing fine but it refuses to open back up and its been about 2 weeks now. HELP!!!

How tall is the 20 tall?

and how far below the lamps are the shrooms?

do you have good reflectors on the lamps?

    what parameters have you tested?
what other corals are you keeping and are you running carbon?

    17 inches tall

they sit 13 inches away from the lights almost on the sand bed but i did move the shrooms down when they wouldnt open back up ( it was about 5 inches from the light when i first move it into the tank)

salinity is 1.025 as best as i can tell I have a coralife plastic refractor

unknown on the reflectors the light is an odysea and does fine for the zoas

I am running carbon in a hang on the back filter with a filter on it nitrates 0, Nitrites 0, ammonia 0 ph is 8.0-8.1 LFS tested it calcium unknown

The only other corals are 3 zoa heads and they seem to be doing fine I wanted to take the coral thing slow just till i got a feel for it and it seems like i made the right choice. The tank has also been runnong around 1.5 years and hasnt had any real problems with keeping fish or shrimp/crabs.

    thank you

    parameters seem in order
lighting - when the shrooms where higher, they where open more
now they are lower they are scrunched up

the actinic will not be giving much PAR and as such your mainly supplying the needs of the coral/ symbiotic algae Via the 10K lamp

I would increase the height that the shrooms are on to bring them closer to the light source and see if that helps return them to their former expansion size

I would consider adding a couple more T5 lamps to the set up and again go with 1 x 10k and 1 x Actinic

that would increase the amount of useable light for the corals and thus enable you to increase your coral options in terms of the number of different species that would then find ideal lighting conditions in your set up

    Steve

do you mean you rely on your LFS for doing the tests ? if thats the case keep records of results

definitely - anything you can add to increase the total amount of light output (of the right color spectrum) will help

but moving the shrooms closer to the lamp would be a more cost effective method of achieving the same thing IMO
