Every few days I get a layer of green algae over my glass. Every few days I clean it off with super awesome mag-float. When it's removed, it looks like powder. Very easy to rub off with mag-float. I wouldn't really even call it a problem.

I'm wondering, foremost, is this typical?

Next thing I'm wondering, when I get a skimmer will it help this specific issue?

That is pretty much normal as it is some thing you will always be doing every so many days. Mine looks a little brown now but used to be green when I first started the tank. Don't think you have anything to worry about.

Ditto. Mine is brown. Skimmer did not help. I changed skimmers from a POS to a good one and no decrease at all. It's just a thang.

ive actually heard that if you have filter feeding corals in the tank, they could benefit from the scrubbed off algae in the water column
