Started my 8 gallon nano tank (all in one system) about a month ago with live rock and water from an established tank - was cycled in less than a week but kept monitoring parameters for another week before putting in a CUC consisting of a blue zebra hermit and a few snails.

Two rocks has what I think is algae, one green filaments and another looks purple and fuzzy (pictures in following post). I now have two gobies, a Hector's goby and rainfordi. Little sprouts of green filaments are growing here and there.

Parameters are sg 1.023, ph 8.0, ammonia/nitrate/nitrite undetectable, calcium 480, alkalinity 12. Phosphate sponge and carbon sponge.

So my question is what kind of algae is this and what I should do to get rid of this. Does boiling rocks work? These two rocks are pourous so seems like its coming from within.

You lift out rocks and lay a paper towel dampened with peroxide across the algae areas, wait a minute, lift off and rinse.

No need to boil rocks, its too extreme, there are zero bad side effects with peroxide simply loss of algae.

If you would like to see proof google 'pico reef pest algae problem challenge'

This algae can grow in any nutrient profile it does no good to try and purify the water further it will just keep growing, this will kill it in three days.

You are very lucky to have requested action soon, within a month your entire tank will be eutrophic most people only take action then

In the giant thread we discuss why people using phosphate management still get algae of various kinds

The major tenet of the thread is taking action when you see a problem, and refocusing on water management after taking action to prevent regrowth. These are two different actions.

Rainfordi/Hectors goby both eat and require algae. Did you ever get an ID on the type? I see you got advice on how to rid your tank of it :)
