    I added a green slimmer acropora about a month ago. It is encrusting over the rock. My question is how do the grow? Do the send shoots off the part that has encrusted or do they grow a different way?

    They can branch from the encrusted area as well as from the existing branches.

    Just depends on lighting and flow, high lighting IME leads to more encrusting and less upward growth. High, random flow leads to faster more sporadic growth.
