Really excited, I got my first green star polyp last night. It's in the tank and slowly seems to be opening back up. One question i have though is I noticed my peppermint shrimp picking at it, should I be concerned about this?

    Many thanks!

It may be, I wouldn't worry too much at this point. GSP is one of the hardiest corals I know of and grows quickly. It should be fine. If you notice it's getting bad, then you may want to remove the shrimp.

Their not picking at the coral per say, probably just around it. Remember that Pepper's are scavengers, I have never seen them eat away at a coral.

+1 , whenever I add any new coral, many of my fish and my cleaner shrimps will very shortly be pecking at it or clambering over it, and the base rock or plug it came on
once they have taken any plant or animal life that was on it, they leave it alone IME

It is possible you got a misidentified camel shrimp(pretty common at stores). If that's the case, it will have to be removed if you want corals. Just keep an eye on it and see if it's actually consuming the coral.

MY cleaner shrimp jumps on all my corals... not sure if he's actually looking for something or trying to get the corals to close up so i can't enjoy them...
