Ive got several frags/colonies of GSP in my SPS dominated tank. The GSP as you can imagine is getting slightly out of control. They are uproaching/touching several of my SPS colonies including a Superman, Hoeksemai, and some Millies. There appears to be no effect on any corals so far. I am wondering.....will the GSP take over a SPS colony? What is the best/easiest way to get rid of the GSP? It grows in every nook and cranny and has proved difficult to remove by hand. TIA

Spread a lil Kalk paste on em. They will choke out anything!

I used a very stiff brush to scrub the GSP off of my live rock - I took the rock out of the tank, scrubed it, rinsed it in SW and put it back in. I got mine at Home Depot - in the paint supply area. It worked great. Just wear goggles and wash your hands. Once I did that, I isolated the rest of my GSP to thier own little island in my Reef Tank. I LOVE the way GSP looks, it really flows with the current and has a great color to it. It is a nice addition to the reef - but you need to keep it isolated to save your sanity :)

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
GSP while a beautiful coral was my nightmare in the tank I just nuked.

My suggestion is do your best to remove it now, it will be soooo much harder to remove later.

It will kill most sps. Literally grows right over them.
GSP is one of the more aggressive ones out there.

yes, gsp will eventually overcome the sps. the only things in my tank that have been able to win against the gsp long term have been my bulb tipped anemones. If i could place them where i wanted, i would use them to barricade the gsp. Unfortunately, as we all know, anemones go where they want. if you still want to keep them, i would isolate some on an island. for the rest of them, i have had some success with taking a razor and cutting the mat in the middle and then peeling it back in both directions (sell these pieces back to your LFS). i would then kalk any little spots that remain.

If you use kalk paste be careful, as it will effect your ph.

A nice firm brush will work, but be ready to do a waterchange and run some fresh GAC.

Thanks everybody for the ideas. Never thought of the Kalk paste. In fact I dont even know how to go about making that? Some pointers please!

I think I will take out what LR I can and scrub with a wire brush. I dont think I can take out much though.....:-(
