Someone gave me some and I put them in the tank in a rush, so I didn't acclimate them. Will they be ok? Only a couple opened up yesterday. After I dropped them in I realized the water they were in from their tank was much cooler.

While I'm still new at this SW game, from what I've read about GSP it's pretty darn tough and shouldn't have an issue.

Zoban is right on this. They act real picky but they will come around in a few days. Put them in an isolated spot unless you want them to take over all of your rock. They will overgrow slower growing coral.

IME GSP is one of the hardiest corals besides mushrooms. You shouldnt have any probs. Normally it takes a couple days for them to fully open/acclimate. You should be in the clear but for future practices...at least float. GL

The GSP opened up a lot more today. The other stuff didn't AT ALL. I think its a long tentacle leather coral but not sure.

Make sure you put that gsp on a seperate rock and isolate it. Guranteed it will take over almost everything. Mine has taken over 2 zoa colonies so far and going to the 3rd.

The tank I took it from is COVERED. And I mean covered in it! It looks kind of cool.

Curious, once its grown onto rock, how hard is it to remove if you don't want it there?

Also, will it kill or just cover over any polyps or other soft coral that's in its path?

GSP is actually really easy to frag off the rock. You can cut it with a blade or just peel it off and glue it to whatever you like. As for it actually killing it I dont think it will but it can overgrow the rock at the base of the coral then restrict its light as the polyps grow longer.

IMO I think it looks great when its at the base of a larger piece of coral.
