Hey, I added one of these corals that someone fragged for me a few days ago. It has a dark purple encrusting base and neon green polyps. For some reason, it stays 95% closed when I have my light on, and when I switch to just actinics in the evening, it opens completely....
What am I doing wrong? Or is this just what it does sometimes?
Its positioned towards the top of my tank and under double bright LEDS.

I always had the best looking GSP then they were not being blasted with light, id lower it and see how it reacts to lower light.

Yea, I guess that's logical, just liked where it was positioned haha.
    Thanks

No problem, you might be able to slowly move them back up to where you want.

yeah definately lower them to the bottom of the tank. They need to light acclimate. In a day or so, move it up a little, and then over the next week or so, move it up till it is where you want it. Just move it every couple days.

Mine can be closed for long periods of time when everything else looks fine. I wouldn't worry about them too much they are real hardy. If they don't turn out okay, I have plenty I will gladly give you, lol. Good Luck!

Double bright leds? Are you refering to the Marineland double bright leds? I use these in my FW setups, but don't believe that they would be suitable in a reef aquarium (and even the Marineland Reef leds have gotten very poor reviews).

Just a little advice. I would put the GSP out on an island or they can take over the tank. They spread quickly and are able to kill other corals. Take it from a man that has a very large green area in his tank. :)

Agreed, My green star polyp's didn't really start taking off until I moved them to the bottom of the tank to act as a "turf" for the bottom of the tank...Now in the last 2 months they have grown from a piece the size of a quarter to totally covering a 4" frag plug as well as growing off the plug and onto the rock "next door"

    They like high flow/low light
