i have some green star polyps that haven't opened in a few days. I have a feeling it is just my light though. I just had a ballast go bad that controlled my actinic bulbs. I'm going to replace it when my lfs gets the new one in. I have a 120 gallon tank with a power compact with 4 65watt bulbs and 4 blue led. I'm hoping to upgrade very soon to a icecap ballast with 4 vho's....The light went out about 4 days ago and the polyps haven't opened the past 2 days. Is this probably due to the change in lighting? I'm fairly new to the coral scene so sorry if this is a dumb question... Any thoughts would be appreciated.

They are known to close up every once in a while for a little bit. So far yours doesn't sound like anything out of the norm. As long as the mat is still colorful and intact, not disintegrating, then you should be alright. They can behave like leathers sometimes.

I wouldn't think the loss of actinics would have that much of an impact on it.

Mine started to turn brown until I got more flow hitting them and they have slowly started getting their green look back again. Give them a few more day and what Justphish said "as long as the mat is still colorful and intact, not disintegrating" they should be OK

How is your calcium level? Those can use a ton due to the fact that they spread like wild fire.
