I have had a green star polyp for about 5 mons. It has always done great, even spreading agross the rock i put it on. For the last week it just won't come out anymore. My water is all good, even took sample in to LFS to test. As well I have done water change.
Any idea's why it would suddenly stop opening up?

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Mine wouldn't open for a couple days. Then I noticed a powerhead slid down a bit and was pointing right at it. Guess it didn't like that strong of a flow. Moved the power head and they opened right up. Been doing fine ever since.

+1 on above - flow directly at them will cause them to shut shop

also not enough flow around them can mean that over time debris collects in the pores
so a quick blast with a power head or believe it or not a quick scrub with a new / unused toothbrush , the baby kind with the soft bristles can free the blockages and they come out again

Who knows? My 2 large colonies did that (closed) after over a year of them always being out (daytime). I thought it was because I raised Mag to 1500 ppm. They stayed closed for about 3-4 weeks and I was considering what to do as I was tired of looking at just a Purple mat. One morning I got up and saw a few coming out. After all the lights were on for awhile about 50% of the polyps were out. After that, some days 75%, 50%, closed again, 100% etc. you get the picture. Now, they are all back to normal, fully out all day and retracting and coming out under the moon lights. They will come around again.

    +1 on Steve's advice.
I have neon green star polyps and they will do this from time to time. I was first using an 11" long pipette that was blowing some debris away, but then I bought a turkey baster and it's a major improvement. I've been blasting the GSP every other day. Somehow debris keep getting to it and this helps a lot. As long as I keep blasting them, they will fully open when lights are on.

    Good luck with yours!

if you were not moving it around, perhaps a fish or snail could be bothering it. as long as tissue is not dead, it will eventually come back again.
