I've only had this green trumpet for about 3 or 4 weeks. I noticed that it looks like the "skin" is tearing between two heads. Is this normal? Is it getting ready to grow a new head? Anybody see this before?

to me, it looks like stress from flow or too much light

It's on the sand bed tucked into a corner where there isn't much flow. Onlu other thing would be to try to put it in a shadow.

+1 on that. When mines split, it look more like it grew another head on a stalk and not like a tear like that.

Thanks all. I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe I'll try putting it under a shadow for a while.

Here is how it looked when I got it. The area that is now tearing was swollen. The pictures were taken on different angles but you can figure out which head is which.

    When I got it.

    I have candycanes.
The heads of mine have split to form 2 heads befor.. But they didn't look like that..??
They like Mod light. So don't put it in the shade..
The bad looking part, is that 2 heads connected at the top of it..??
Is yours opening good..? Some of mine do, some don't.. You feeding it good..?
Keep them out of strong flow.. And keep an eye on it.. And keep us posted..
What does your Cal. read.. These things use it up fast.. Keep it around 440..
When one of mine splits, it does from the top down, Not the other way around..
Hopefull someone will have some better info for you..
I have never seen one do that..??

    Good Luck, Larry

Maybe some type of infection..? You may have to remove that part to save the rest..
BUT, wait till someone that knows tells you what to do..

Larry, They really don't seem to open up and feed at night so I really haven't had the opportunity to feed them. I have another candycane that does open up.

    Calcium is at 450.
