First I would test your water for Nitrates and phosphates.

High levels of Nitrate can be a problem but what is high to grow algae or get green water is still OK for Inverts

It appears it's a standard composition. So, no extra-amounts of vit. B12...

Hmm... You may have algae-related problem. As already suggested by us: water test!!!

Thank you for all the input guys, I appreciate it. I've ordered me a brand new canister filter ( I had a HOT), some purigen, a bunch of carbon...it should arrive in a few days. Once set up and running I'll give you an update. Thanks again.

We feed those very same pellets to all new fish plus I soak them in penicillin first to allow the to absorb more real medicine never caused a issues with use here .. No PO4's You I think have over fed the system to much with algae sheets or some veggie flakes ? But you now have to be only problem I ever found a U/V to solve.. Ozone will clear it up also as will less light and moire skimming and get the water parameters to where they have to be..

I haven't fed anything else but those pellets and brine shrimp. The water didn't turn green until a few days after I started the pellets so i was wondering if it could be the reason. Also, I ordered the new canister filter simply because the one I have now is no good IMO. It's a penguin 200, which according the manufacturer is for aquariums 30-40 GALS, but of course the website where I bought it tells me is for 50 GALS...be that as it may, my tank's 46 gals with a bunch of rock, 5 fish, 5 hermit, one emeral and two cleaner shrimp...so I'm having waste produced and I don't think the filter is doin' its job. It's trying I think, 'cause not all the water is green, is mostly at the bottom, the top is hazy, but not so green. What do you think?

I ordered carbon and purigen and plan to run both in the same tray next to each other. If that doesn't clear it up, I'll get a 15w UV sterelizer.

So I finally got my 15 watt CurrentUSA gamma sterilizer today, I installed it and I'm currently using it with a MaxiJet 900 pump. The pump does 250GPH. It's been installed for about 7 hrs now, but so far, no difference, the water still green.

A couple of days ago I also started using a canister filter that moves 300 GPH. I use carbon, ceramic rings and Seachem's Purigen....that didn't do anything at all....

Now the UV sterilizer is hanging on there....but like I said....no difference at all. How long is it supposed to take? Do you think I should use it in-line with the canister filter? there won't be much water flow difference, the filter moves 300, the maxijet 250 GPH.

Any advice/input, greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

BTW. Skimmer is still runing as well. Fish and shrimp are doing fine. No stress at all.

give it a couple of days. i figured running the purigen would have cleared the water up overnight. are you running any phosphate absorbing media? if not i would get some of that to, along with water changes you should be back to clear soon.
