After I bought this 16g Nuvo off craigslist I finally got it home and after further inspection, this tank needed some TLC.I let it sit and do its thing for 2 months with only water changes being done every two weeks and added a hungry clean up crew

I removed a lot of the live rock to free up some space for new additions and to build it up the way I want to. (made some rubble to put it in the back filter) It was a nice tank but there was one huge piece of live rock I had to break up. (way better water flow now) plus gave some to a friend now he has his first coral piece in his tank.

I took some pictures for you all to see.

My concern was the sand bottom. its very fine live sand and its about 2"-3" thick. Looks super dirty . cleaning it up took awhile with about 10 blue hermit crabs, and 15 nassarius snails did the job..

Did you just move the tank with the sand as is?

That is a lot of sand, I would be wary of disturbing such a deep sand bed all at one time.

Maybe clean it a small section at a time.

You could try a tiger tail cucumber for a while. I would stay away from sand sifter stars though.

Some nice corals came with it.

Yeah when I moved it I left the sand and about 3 inches of water left. The guy just used a redslime chem and hadnt removed the dead red slime. I know i stirred about some of the sand by accident during the move

I would give the tank a couple weeks to settle after the move before taking on the sand bed.

How long was it set up prior to the move?

Try some hermit crabs as well.

It was set up for about a year.

How do you feel about about 10 Nassarius Snails?

    Sounds like a good plan.

A Pistol shrimp and Goby might stir up the sand bed as well, you're Maroon might give them problems though.

After getting this tank and realizing it needed some serious algea clean up work, I decided to take it very slow. 2 months later, about 10 blue hermit crabs, and 15 nassarius snails, biweekly water changes, and aquasclupting did the job.. My parameters stabilized and now I started adding some corals... Picked up these over the 4th of july weekend...

    Rainbow wellsophyllia
    Frogspawn
    Torch

Beautiful additions, especially the Wellso (now known as Trachyphyllia Radiata)! The tank is coming along very nicely :)

I think they are still separate species.
The Maroon will outgrow this tank, both in size and aggression.
I like the new scape, much more open. :)
