My first personal saltwater tank. Been reading up for a while and finally decided to tackle it. It's gonna be a 40 breeder DT with a 20L refugium. I'll let the pictures do the talking!

    DT and Refugium tank!

Next was stock piling the goods for it.

All that stuff needs a stand to support it. (Way over engineered. Haha) Sealed the bottom of the stand just incase overflow of the sump does occur, I have a slight safeguard.

Waited for one more crucial piece of equipment in order to know how big to make the refugium compartments. Skimmer for a 150

    Next was making the refugium.

And the water test! Passed with flying colors!

And to conclude this post...plumbing everything!

Just waiting for my RO/DI unit to come from BRS, and then I just have to purchase the salt, sand, and powerheads.

If anyone has good recommendations/comments/criticism, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking of going with Koralia powerheads, but not sure what size(s).

Here's picture of how it's sitting now. First picture is the just the 10k's, second picture is both 10k's and Actinics (color distorted by cell pics)

Good start and welcome to 3reef. They might make you move your tank build to the Show off your tank thread.

Actually pretty awesome start, especially on the sump design. You could give some pointers to the other newer members.

    Welcome to 3reef.

Thanks! I spent quite some time researching and figuring out what I wanted.

Also just purchased Koralia 750gph powerhead. That put's me at around 1150gph on the whole tank (with the return flow). I'm not sure if that's sufficient or if I should buy another powerhead (like the Koralia 425 or something) I'd like to have good water movement throughout the whole tank.

Just got my BRS RO/DI unit yesterday. Went to hook it up today so it could fill over night only to find I need to buy an adapter for my faucet. Figures.

Only thing left to get is sand and salt. I'd like to go with the IO Reef Crystals, but I'll most likely end up just getting the IO salt because I get a good discount on it (It's either Instant Ocean or Oceanic Sea Salt).

Nice start man, looks like youve got things under control. Looking forward to seeing this thing come to life. I know last $1/gallon sale petco had, i thought about doing this exact set up for my girl, but she could care less about a tank, so i said screw it.

Nice first set up, for sure. Youll be itching to upgrade quick, believe that. lol

As far as powerheads, i would get 2 750s and maybe 1 1050. try the 2 750s and you can just add a 1050 later if needed but i dont think u will.

I'll most likely upgrade in a year or two. I have a 125 that I got for a steal and replaced the frames and resealed so its practically new. My tortoises are utilizing it now as a nice big terrarium, but once they out grow it, I bet you can guess what's going to happen with it. :p

I bought the skimmer and lights for my 40 keeping in mind the 125. Bought an oversized skimmer and 2 36" lights (4 Lamp T5 - the other ones still in the box waiting for the day the 125 goes salt).
