I like having bare bottom and its not too bad on the eyes even without starboard. I converted my 40B to bare bottom recently. The bottom of my tank is black to match the back.

I think I'll start off BB and see if it's for me... easier to add it than take it away! I bet I could cover it in encrusting montiporas pretty quick...

Very true. I also like BB tanks, but haven't been able to try yet.

I kinda like the look of sand, and I also like the ability to move clams that I put down, a giant squamosa on the bottom of your tank-permanently, does not sound ideal, LOL

on a side note, I did go BB in my frag tank, and it makes life soooooo much easier when it comes down to getting all the detritus

Yeah, my next frag tank will most definitely be completely dedicated to frags and will be BB.

wow, you are going in the opposite direction as me. 210 gal to 300 gal. Me 75 gal to 0 gal. If it wasn't for an upcoming move and the fact that houses in the Bay area so blooming expensive I might be upgrading.

I did my 300DD FOWLR with a white painted bottom, with the thought that I could always add gravel if I didn't like it. I was skeptical, but I liked it right from the start. It makes a huge difference in keeping the tank clean. The white looks more like a fine sand from a distance.

I would say go BB, but you must make sure your aquascaping is solid.

Wrasses, Anthias and chromis over blue ribbons all day long!

How would ribbon eels do in the flow you are talking about?
