Would it hurt the led to under drive them? I doubt I need the extra power as far as light output.

    Probably not.

But then I question; why buy XMLs?

Good question. I assumed that they would still put out more light per amperage than the xre or xpg.

Im worried about the heat as well. XM-Ls get really hot. Since the heatsink is a long one piece, I dont even know how to active cool it.. My LFS has two of 1x60"-ish heatsink with XPs. I didnt count how many on each heatsink, but it was REALLY hot when I touched the heatsink. No fans either.

Hmm... One advantage is how my canopy is designed there is no stagnant air and I keep my house pretty cold. So maybe a couple fans mount in the top of the overhead pointed down over the heat sinks. Just to keep air from building up in the canopy.

Ok, I sent a message to ledgroupbuy.com to see if they will let me swap for the XP-G warm whites instead. Hopefully they will let me do that!

That should help with the heat and driver issues! I can put a couple fans (desk fans) in the canopy and aim them to blow across the heat sinks.

Itd make a huge difference, and the floating canopy is better for ventilation as well.
I hope they will modify the order for you too. Im pretty sure they are flexible like that (from my personal experience).

Ok, just heard from ledgroupbuy and the package is already enroute... They did confirm that they will run at the same temp as an XPG if run at the same amperage.

I am going to hook them up as though they were XPGs and mount two Desk fans up in the corners of the canopy and have them blowing across the heatsinks (this one and the AIs) This will keep air moving across the heatsink and keep any hot air from building up in the canopy.

Is this going to be enough? Or will I still need a larger heatsink?
