    Glad you're fine Pink,

I have a DIY sump, and a DIY HOB overflow siphon style that does loose prime.

However, I did read how the last 'flood' occurred. I too noticed that my filter sock/bag could overflow the edge of my sump if I had the top up too high, etc. I have some filter bags, like a sock 200micron- that are obviously much larger and take much longer to 'clog'.

It seems that when you last were zapped by completeing a current from your sump to the floor, the GFCI should have immediately popped off. I'm no electirician however.

    Good luck.

todd, i have filter sock holders built into my sump. but both are to hard to get to with every thing else in there, thats why i had rigged up a holder that held it to high....since than my new idea is..... i am now using a mag float inside the sock. velco side in the sock and the other mag part on the outside of the sump. this is working very well. its in an open area, I'm able to keep it where ever i want as far as top of sump is concerned...its 2 inches down... don't want another flood. if it over flows it will go into the sump area and this set up is very easy to pull and change its a 200 micron sock.

not sure why that gfci didn't kick, it kicked before when water went into an outlet. i will have it checked, maybe its now defective?

Great idea with the mag float!

I often have seen others DT's, using their mag floats for other things like holding up their frag racks, helping with overflows, etc.

    Reef on my friend!

I'm still confused by this. i have done more reading so.... i got a volt meter and tested the tank. it has stray voltage... I'm guessing thats what i was feeling when standing on a wet floor.
i tested each pump with the meter, there is no voltage drop as each pump and heater is powered/turned off. so that says to me its all stray voltage i felt.
i placed the ground probe into the water and tested it plugged into the gfi outlet it was in ...no change. i think that has to do with how this house is wired..(1958 home) there is no actual ground probe wire to the outlet. but when tested the gfi tests as grounded???? when it was put in it was tested.
ok next test is i push the ground probes plug into my baseboard heat that runs around my house and is under ground at spots. volt meter now drops to nothing with the ground probe being hooked to the baseboard tubing.
