grow light ballast for reef?

    I have a guy selling a 400w metal halide remote ballast with hood and no bulb for 75$. here is link to product: Hydrofarm - Hydrofarm PH57301 Ballast PowerHouse Halide 400W. Can i put 10-20k metal halide bulb in it?


    I have a 72g bow front reef tank with only softies and i am trying to get a affordable halide light to start with lps and maybe sps.

    The difference is the transformer It will not fire up all bulbs but that can be fixed also with a ballast change out 20.00 or so but yes it will do may need a better reflector later on. But if it fires a Mogul based Plant 400 it will fire up a Mogul aquarium bulbs as th same if its HQI or a doubled ended lamp
