Growth On Clam

    best picture i could get of it.

    Anyone ID this? It's a small reddish tube type thing with a larger base. it takes up about the last 4 growth layers.

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Looks like a Vermetid snail/worm. You can snap it off.

    Have no idea what I'm looking for in that picture, but from your description it sounds like a vermatid snail.

    that does not look like a vermitid to me....too redish and looks as though it is coming from inside the edge and not on the outside

    Here is another picture from a different angle. Its the reddish circle on the right side.

    well i snapped off the tip of it but i wasn't able to get the whole base off without putting too much effort into it.

    After googling Vermatids, I believe that is what i have. i have seen there little mucus feeding strands when i turn my flow off to feed my Sun Coral. Should i try a little harder and remove the base or is snapping the tube off enough to kill these guys? i just dont want to hurt my clam.

    If it comes back and it might just take a dab of super glue gel and cover the the end of it without getting any on the mantel of the clam.
