I agree with Aiptasia. I bought some very purple rock and there was one on it. I didn't know what it was, so i let it be. 3 months later, there were 3 of them, and many other babies that started to grow. I bought a product called Aiptasia-X to kill them. It works very good.

Good luck getting rid of it. They can be a serious pest.

It looks like aiptasia to me. Are the tentacles all coming from a common center? If so, fairly safe to assume it's aiptasia, and I would take it out with a syringe of Joe's Juice or even boiling water (search the site here for aiptasia and you will find a plethora of ways to kill it).

If you look at the picture, there are several diffrent bushes of tentacles just like that all over the rock in diffrent spots. I just called my lfs to enquire about peppermint shrimp however he told me aiptasia is normally greenish in color where mine are fairly white in color. He said this is most likely harmless. Is this true?

i dont agree with your lfs that is almost 100% an aiptasia. i've had these guys come in brown, clear, white ... take care of em while they are still in small numbers. if this is still a new tank nuke it with some joe juice or Aiptasia-X, try not to add any nutrients to the tank and get your phos down to 0 if it is not already. they can takeover and grow on everything and love water with excess waste. i've posted the same solution to this a number of time on other threads bc it worked so well for me... get a GFO reactor. i had an outbreak (maybe high phos in water) of these guys and put in a GFO reactor and bye bye 40ish Aiptasia within a couple weeks. going 6 months now with reactor and 0000 zip none Aiptasia!

well since its only on one rock, can't I just take that one rock out? treat it seperatly before it spreads or leave it out?

Definitely do. You can just boil the rock to rid it of the aiptasia.
