Unfortunately, yes it will kill the entire rock. Nuking and boiling are very effective, but very costly. Only since this rock is affected am I suggesting this.

If you boil, do it in the garage or outside. It will release a funk in the air that will stain your walls. Not really, but it does stink. I'd boil for about 15 min for a rock that size.

If you want to nuke, I'd suggest following Otty's method. Tried and true.

ok. I just took the rock out of the water and put it in a bucket. can't I just let it die off in there?

You could do, but I dont know how long that would take to be honest
and the coralline you want to preserve would also go white/ die off in less time (opinion)

how many of these do you have?

I once removed a small rock with 3 x aiptasia on it and was able to remove them using tweezers but Im not sure this would be effective everytime.

Neighbour Tom once posted another good way of dealing with them
if you have a spare power head - a directional one like a maxijet rather than a wave maker
put the rock in a bucket and direct the power head straight at the aiptasia - this could cause it to release its hold on the rock and float of in the bucket

worth trying IMO if you do want to preserve the coralline on the rock

Why not just get a few pepermint Shrimp then don't feed you tank for a day or 3 ? That way all that goes is the apitasia I had some move into a spot I couldn't get at them so, in went the shrimp and boom a day later my yank was clear

I dont have much rock at all. maybe 35 pounds and of that only 5 rocks are live including this one taken out. Im very inexperienced so I'm looking for the easiest way to kill this or just take the rock out and leave it out for good. Maybe the lfs will take it back?
