    Hey,

Just joined this board, looks like a good place to discuss/learn about all things fishy.

I recently started my first saltwater tank and have just hit the stage of adding
live rock to it. It has only been in for about three days and I noticed a little
wavey fella swinging on the back side of one of the rocks.

I've attached photos to this post and if anyone could help me with an I.D. that
    would be sweet.

Also, I'm only going for a smallish size tank (its a 3ft atm), do you guys/gals think
    I have enough rock?

    Cheers,

    Welcome to 3 reef, Witness
That looks like a Majano nem to me
if the ID is correct they can propogate quickly, pack a powerfull sting and generally make life unpleasant for any future coral additions

if my ID is correct ( dont kill anything on my say so alone)
there are 2 commercial products that do work IME
Joes Juice and Aiptasia X if used correctly (Ive had a couple of almost got it right with Aip X, LOL) will get rid of these

    alternatively
    Hot water -
    Lemon juice
    Vinegar
injected into the nem will get rid of them

rock work - what are you going to keep? and what other filtration do you have
if its going to be primarily a fish set up and you have alternative filtration then rock QTY is a matter of personal taste/ aesthetics

if you want the rock to be your primary source of biological filtration and your going for a reef tank, then additional rock would be ideal IMO

Welcome to 3reef, the hitchhiker could be a rock anemone. The pics are a little blurry making ID difficult.

    Thanks people,
Majano Nem? Sounds annoying. Doesn't look all that ugly tho.
Apologies about the image quality, my digital camera isn't much chop.
I've attached a couple more images (prob no better then the first bunch)
but maybe they will help shed a little more light.

I'm planning to start with just a couple of clowns, as I'm new to the whole
salt water game I don't want to start off like a rocket - as well as a couple
    of corals and an anemone.
At the moment I'm running it through a Fluval 305 cannister filter, which I'm told
should be sufficient for what I want to do.

So I've noticed it hasn't moved, grown, or multiplied yet. Any chance this guy
is a harmless, unexpected addition to the tank? :-X

it is a majano. idk what kind but I have some in my tank that are purple and green and really cool looking. however they do sting and like to move around so i put my original one on a rock in the sand by itself so the anemone cant move and it worked out well. it hasnt moved but it is now up to 5 anemones. if you want it isolating it will work out. if not try to sell it to your LFS.

looks a lot like a majano... majano are bad b/c they can become invasive and multiply fast, despite their "cute" appearance...

It's still hard to say based on the picture, but that is what it most closely resembles... I suggest you look up majano and see for yourself it it looks closer to higher resolution pics you can find online.

Hrmm, alright sweet - thanks for the advice guys.
I might try and move it to another isolated area of the tank and see what comes
of it before I decide to get rid of it.

Is there any one particular method that is better for moving these fellas
    then others?
