I realize that with all the problems with my tanks currently, this may just seem completely silly and neurotic. I have moved the coral down and do not want to again and really do not want to frag it again right now.

Question: The tips are out of the water constantly now on a portion of the coral, you can see it in the image. This does not seem to cause any issues, but can it cause issues?
I know in the wild tips are exposed during low tide but this constant.

Any input whether speculation or first hand appreciated.

    You can see the tips.

    Thank you again.

It might help to see a FTS shot to make any final decision.

That's crazy. I think it will be an issue in the long run, but I could probably take it off you hands for a while, until you upgrade tanks. At least if you think it would help :)

Personally, I think the coral will just stop growing at those tips for now and maybe start branching more. Just an uneducated guess, but it would seem a bit self-destructive for the colony to continue to the point of causing problems.

    :p:p

    Thanks kwinter. :)

    Hey Matt.

    Appreciate the offer lol.

    Mr. Bill and m2434,

I expected it to table out and stop, must be a lighting issue.

Actually had a nightmare, yes neurotic, that tips STN'd and the whole coral started. Obviously this is something that is bothering me.

Guess I am going to have to get off my duff, fix the issue, get a FTS (yes Alex). Motivation from the Acropora Gods I guess.

    Thanks guys/gals and Alex.

I doubt they will grow out more. They will most likely go flat on the ends and grow out elsewhere on the colony.

Yeah that is what I figured.

If you look closely you can see the tips are blunt compared to the other tips, almost a knob type appearance, this is what concerned me.

Did you cut the Formosa? What happened to the tips if you did not.

I have seen some acropora pancake out but mine is not doing that either.

Ditto, thats an envious problem to have.

Cheryl,That thing is a beast!I have the utmost confidence in you being able to handle whatever needs done with it.The worst you can end up with is a bunch of high end rp frags and still have a sweet colony.Just a guess here too,but I would also think it would stop upwards growth and spread out.
