Hey all, so i have this piece of coral which i believe is a GSP of some sort, i have always been told that these grow like weeds and should be careful as to their placement, i started this tank 2 months ago and have seen absolutely no growth and im curious to the reason behind this.

I recently have found a bristleworm hiding under the mat of the coral, could this be the issue? the coral does extend everyday all day but it is not very encrusted or there are not a lot of polyps compared to other GSP that i have seen. please advise on what is going on here, i do love this coral but not sure how happy it really is.

all of my param are good and have been good and stable.
79 degrees, 10-20 nitrate, 0 nitrite, 11 dkh, 450-480 calc, add iodine daily, ph 8.1, etc etc

please someone give me some advice here to make this coral flourish. posting pic here as well

That is GSP for sure...and I dont know hwo to explain it, but give it time to settle in, and it will take off. I had a piece about that size and it stayed that size for a good six months, and then it just took off. Now I have so much of it, I cant get rid of it. I set it to crawl up the wall of my tank to cover the overflow..and it has just taken off. Your parameters look good...so id say just watch it, and it will grow. It looks cool when it gets going, but you have to stay on top of it. I have it isolated in my reef, on an island of its own, otherwise it would takeover everything.

another question here is that the mat on the frag is not completely covering it, there are lots of spots of no mat and in fact at one part the mat has grown upward almost into a large fold on top, should i cut the mat down at all to make it grow better etc?

i have heard that if it startes to fold over at all you need to cut it so that it is flat and will spread properly??

If you don't want it to take over your tank you can isolate in on a rock so that it can't easily spread to your other rockwork.

It will, trust me, more than you'll prob want it to. But thats a new tank, so give it a little time. Alos, be careful with dosing iodine daily, it can crash your tank pretty quick if levels get too high. I've never dosed it, regular WC's should work just fine for replacing what you need.

alright well guess have to just wait and see then, they are great looking colors and so hope it does take off, unlike my mushrooms which unfortunately are a tenth of that size now for some reason =/ but ill watch the iodine levels, have a test kit coming in tomorrow to check the ppm on it.

keep a close eye on it or it could over run your tank and out compete other corals.

I would stop dosing the iodine, especially in a small tank like that. It may be why the mushrooms are shrinking. You should be getting plenty of iodine in your salt already. Looks like the GSP should be getting plenty of light right there. Ours didn't get enough light where it was and was just kind of surviving and starting to dwindle a little after a year. I moved it a couple months ago to an area at the same height but closer to the center of the tank and it's already spread off the frag & onto a rock.
