so helped my buddy plumb his 45 gal cube into a 15 gal sump. Used the 1 1/4in pvc. How do we stop it from gurgaling? It has a small air hose in the overflow on top of the pvc before it goes out of the tank that i thought was supposed to help but apparently not. Anyone know what we can do?

did you adjust return pump to match the rate? you can add some larger tubing to increase the amount of air that goes in, worked for me.

it is a sicce 2.5 pump, and it is running through 1 and a quarter inch pipe! shouldnt this be able to handle a lot of flow? I only have 1" on my 75 with a sicce 3.0 and its not bad.

If you have two bulkheads you can put a 90 degree on each one facing up and the other facing down. As long as one is higher than the other you can put a valve on the one with the lower level and create a herbie overflow. This is what I have used quite successfully for a while now and my return pump makes more noise than the overflow does. I believe marine engineers has an excellent write up on it and if you google it there is a lot of information on them out there. Good luck!

1 of the bulkheads is the return, the other is the overflow.

1 and 1/4 inch pvc is what screwed onto them.

Sorry Dingo I didn't notice that before. So I guess the gist of my previous post was +1 to dingo's link.
