I have a stockman standpipe on my return in the weir, it works great and is very quiet, but every now and then the water in tge weir will rise a inch or so the gurgle and go back down, is this because the hole ontop is not big enough, or the drain holes on the stockman pipe?

    Thanks

Drill the air hole out just large enough a piece of airline tubing will fit through it snugly. Cut a foot or so of airline tubing and stick it in the hole and slowly lower it until the water level stabilizes and the sound is quieted. You will probably see the overflow rate increase once the air/water mixture is optimized. Make sure the other end of the tubing does not fall in the water and stop the flow of air, hang it over the back or something.

Thanks for replys guys, the hole at top of standpipe does have a foot or so of airline tubing fit snugly, its not constant noise just a gurgle when the water drops back down that inch,

If you can get it tuned at the standpipe, make sure your overflow doesn't leak. I just helped a friend who couldn't figure out why his standpipes gurgled and his overflow level kept changing, and we found that the seal at the overflow wall/tank interface was leaky, which caused the level to rise and fall.
