I have an interview tomorow at the local fish/aquarium store, and while I have been researching their products I dont really feel like it will be very useful in an interview. Could someone please give me some quality knowledge that I could use to look good? I do want to work at the store and will be willing to put in research when I get the position, I have just never had a fish or any reason to learn about them. SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!!!

Where are you applying to? If it is a chain store, you won't need any previous info. However, if it is not a chain store, look up info on setting up a SW tank, the point of cycling an aquarium, what does reef safe and not reef safe mean, and filtration options. Researching these topics should help.

    First welcome to 3reef?

Saltwater/reefing is not something you can learn in a couple posts and be competent. Its not even something you can learn to look good in a couple posts. Youll read just enough to throw something out there and sound silly with it, and youll be seen right thru. I am hardly saying reefin is rocket science, I mean hell I can do it with minimal issues so how hard can it be? but I didnt learn it with a one day trip to the forum.

Your best bet would be to tell the truth, but express you interest in help and learning and how dedicated you would be to that.

Welcome to 3 reef. your question is a tough one, just explain that you are new but very willing to learn. Even say that you started research by posting on this site - employers like honesty.

These links will help you going forward, in the least please read cycling a new tank and be familiar with the standard tank parameter's. Good luck on the interview.

Anything you learn here - do not regurgitate to come off as someone in the know, this will only back fire. Explain that you are new and more than willing to learn, but that you have a desire to learn.

+1 on being honest & saying you don't have any experience. It wouldn't be the best thing to pretend you know what you're doing & then be a blank slate when customers need real advice. There is such a vast amount of knowledge in this hobby that it is an ongoing learning process. Mistakes can be expensive & I wouldn't want to know someone "pretended" to know about the hobby to get their job.

BTW why do you have 0 posts, are you a figment of my imagination?
