I got home for work and noticed a coral was knocked off its rock. So I reach in and move it...and feel that the tank seems a little warm. I look over at the chiller and there is nothing...no light on the console, nothing running...

Luckily the cycle for my MH were off but the temp was up to about 83 (not bad I know ;D) We have not been having the 150% humidity and 110 degree weather that we had been having lately luckily.

After freaking out a bit and having someone talk me off the ledge ::) we figured to look at the fuse. Me being the girl said....um cant tell if it blew, someone painted the glass all white! DURRR :stupid: So went to the auto part store and bought a replacement fuse (actually a box of 5 for 2.99! Replaced it and works! Now I know that a fuse is supposed to be clear!
The guy at the auto part store said..."that there is one massively blown fuse"

I know now when it happened. Yesterday I was home from work sick and the circuit breaker blew that has the tank on it... I definately need to get an electrician out soon!

Thank goodness a 40cent piece of equipment saving a 680 piece of equipment

    Wow cool post Schackmel
they supply chillers here with 1 spare fuse in the pack? anyone else with a chiller may want to get a couple of spares in advance

680s worth of equipment and also 1000s of dollars worth of livestock possibly

    glad it ended well

If nothing else just run an extension cord from another circuit to get the load off that one until you get someone out to install more outlets.

Auto part stores seldom sell a/c voltage single phase fuses at the proper amp value we use in a 120 or 240V a/c chiller and if its a 12v D.C it will not last long . The chillers also use a time dealy hard start fuse for what its worth .

In this case, I knew the chiller well and sent her to the auto parts store. I had one 4 doors down and I went there when I needed one. However, your post does definitely point out that we should have spares around.

I get my fuses at electronics stores. I turned off my chiller the other day when I was doing a small water change and forgot to turn it back on via the AC Jr controller. It got up to 86ºF, woops. It happens to all of us. :hehe:

lol, I don't use a chiller being in Canada, however, when I notice my tank actually hits 82.0F or above, I turn on the AC in the house.... keeps things under control. And why would I not employ something that keeps BOTH of our worlds a little more comfortable!

Our temperature in Ontario had been hot the past few weeks except this few days of raining. It went up to 28 celcius and inside our room were about 30 degree celcius. My tank are now stable at 28-30 celcius for more than two weeks now. It must be your AC that's keeping your temperature down.
