My clownfish pair would love an anemone, and I prefer the look of the carpet anemone. My fear though is that I might be getting into more then I can handle because they are rated as being hard to care for. I understand they need good lighting, good water flow, and good parameters. My tank has all of these things but its just not a sure thing in my mind.

    What are your thoughts?

    Thank you!

These anemones are very hard to keep, and people have had expeirences with them where they eat clown fish, and other fish in the tank(smaller ones). I would honestly recommend starting with a GBTA(Green Bubble Tip Anemone). They are easier then the carpets and if you go with a carpet and end up killing it then its going to be a bit harder to replace then a GBTA. Not that im saying that its OKAY to kill a GBTA, just saying that I would leave the carpets to more experienced reefers(not sure your experience)..But thats just my two cents..

    Answer these Q's for me.
How long has your tank been setup?
How long has it been stable(no change in params, or VERY slight)
    whats your lighting?

I think I will go with the bubble tip. My tank has been setup for about 2 months and parameters have been stable for about 1 month. I have 4x39w T5s.

Honestly, one month isnt that long for stability, my tank was stable for one month and it went crazy.

If i were you, wait 3-5 more months and let your tank set into maturity a bit more. Keeping a tank stable for one month is easy, but when your tank becomes more mature, it hits the point of where it needs to be and is a little easier to maintain making putting a nem in the tank good and be a good environment for it.

Like i said, wait a few more months and see how your tank is doing at that point. I did not buy my first anemone till i was 8 months into the tank, and i still was having problems, just take it slow, no rush.

your tank should be at least over a year old after cycling before buying an anemoone of the condylactis variety. carpet anemones are equivelant in hardiness to ritteris and both are nearly impossible for even the most advanced and even publilc aquariums to keep alive. most perish within months in the average aquarium. i have a carpet in my 40 gallon that ive had for 3 years and ive had him for a little over a year. my maroon clown hosts him

condylactis are the easiest of the anemones and are still quite diicult to maintain, bubble tips are one of the easiest host anemones but still are very difficult to maintain. none of these take care of themselves

    I agree..

But i would not do a condy, almost 99% of clowns will not host it.

Check out two of the pics in my member profile. My maroon took to my condy in less than 2 days. It can happen and a condy is much easier to keep alive.

I wouldn't go as far as 99% cause mine hosts his but it is not very likely!
