So as the title says I'm trying to figure which brand to go with for some supplemental t5 lighting for the back of my tank. I'm looking for a 2 bulb 36" unit and from what I've found out these two are the contenders. Has anyone used either or heard anything about either one?

Go get a Tek ready fixture... Two bulbs, MUCH better reflectors and probably(if you get the ready kit and not a fixture) much cheaper. Or you can get the SLS DIY kits and mount the bulbs where you want and pay even less.

    Good luck

I run tek 48 inch lighting right now and like them. The problem with getting either the tek ready fit kit or the tek retro fit kit is that they need to be screwed into something. Right now my current tek system has a steel light rack that I connect the tek lights to. The problem is that the back of the tank could use a bit more lighting and there is only room for a 36" unit and it has to have the back casing so that it does not look unfinished. The tank is in the family room. Hence the two units I'm asking about are very clean looking units, so it's got to be one of them (but I do wish Tek made a 2 bulb 36 " unit).

So the additional lighting will be 36" long 2 bulb to sit behind the current 48" 4 bulb Tek fixture. There are 2 bars extending from the back corners of the tank (connected to the stand) that sit 8 inches above the tank and are bent 90 degrees towards the front of the tank. They extend a little over half way towards the front of the tank and then a bar connects both sides. The tek fixture is connected to that. The problem is that since the bars go a little over half way to the front of the tank that if I bought a 6 or 8 bulb unit there would then be overhang in the front and the fixture would not line up with the back of the tank. So I figure because I want some additional light in the back I will put the 36" fixture behind the Tek system and that will give me the needed light.
So here is my tank info.

    125ish g Tank (60" long, 20" wide, 24" height, 33g sump, Tek HOT5 48 inch 4 bulb, ER RS-135, mag 18 return pump, 4- Koralia 4's, wavemaker, 18 W UV Sterilizer.

Crosshatch Trigger, Scribbled Angel, Naso Tang, Solar Wrasse, Red Coris Wrasse, Flame Angel, Purcula Clown, 2 Jumbo Chromis, Kole Tang, Lawnmower Blenny, Mandarin Dragonet, 3 Zebra Dartfish. All Fish ~2.5 to 4 inches.

Good to know Unclejed, you have made my decision easy being that you actually have both units and have seen the difference. Hagen Glo system it is.
