Has anyone here used the Hagen Glo HOT5 controller? Ive got 2 arcadia controllers and wanted to get another twin one but cost quite a lot of money; around £70-80. I've just ordered a Hagen twin controller for £30, so much cheaper but is there a catch?

You must mean ballast, not controller.

The hagen t5s have low quality reflectors, and low quality bulbs. Well, compared to the top of the line ones that most people use for their t5ho setups.

Depending on what you want to keep, it might do the trick though.

I'm confused, what is the difference between a ballast and a controller?

A controller would tell the lights to turn on, a ballast will actually provide the power to light the bulb.

Most use timers to control their lights. Even the reef specific controllers simply have timers as part of the controller for turning lights on or off.

On that definition it is a ballast, I not sure why my T5 arcadia controllers are marketed as controllers because using your definition it should be called a ballast. All my lights are on timers which I supposed are the controller bit...

Update, the Hagen Glo seems to work just as good as the arcadia...
