hair algae eating fish?

i'm getting alot of hair algae. just asking what type of fish, crab or shrimp may be good at taking care of that?

 

how long has your tank been set up? How old are your bulbs and how long do you run them. I am finally winning my war against the Hair and it is not easy. Lawn mower blennie, hermit crabs, turbo snails. Many places sell alagae crews, Saltwaterfish.com and liveaquaria.com have the best that i have found. I used S.A.T. once a week also seemed to help.

 

The lawnmower blenny worked well for mine.
if you dont have any light needing livestock i also put a blanket over my tank and blocked all light for a couple of days. at that time i just had some damsels that dont require a strict light schedule.

 

btw, can anyone post or know where any pictures of different algea are? I have some dark green stuff( corraline?) and purple, but am not sure what the dark green is.

Also getting a little light lime green growth here and there....

never seen any hair algea, so I have no idea what to look for...

Hair algae is green and looks like a kid who just got a "crew cut".

Corallines are calcium based algaes. If it is hard to the touch, flat, and hard to scrape off, it might be coralline.

 

my tank has been set up for about 4 months. the bulbs are two months old. and are on for about 12 hours a day. i have about 12 scarlet hemets in it a sandsifting star but no snails yet. i heard the lawnmower can be mean at times so i wanna stay away from that. should i just get some more crabs or a different type?

 

Cut your light time down. I am just getting over it, and i had my MH lights on for only 2 hours a day. The VHO were on for 8. Snails are good for the glass, i like the idea of one cleaner per gallon. So maybe about 8 more crabs and 20 snails.

 

I have hair algea on the glass to and can't decide between a LAWN MOWER BLENNY or a KOLE TANG.

 

i recommened the blenny, but what do i know hna. j/k. mine is actually keepin my sand a nice bright white as well as grazing on the rocks.
