I read that you can get rid of hair algae by doing what it says below, but by doing this will i kill the purple coraline algae on my live rock? thanks!

Best thing to do is to lower the nutrients in your tank.
Make sure you are using good quality RO/DI water first off.
Second make sure you do frequent water changes to remove built up nutrients in the water. Finally make sure you have a sufficent clean up crew. This means lots of snails, lots of small hermit crabs (yea, I still think little hermit crabs do a great job without killing your snails.)

Now as far as treating the hair algae itself. My suggestion would be to remove some of the rock, and "cook" the live rock. Basically put it in a dark bin with good clean sw in it. Couple of powerheads and a heater. Let that hair algae die while it is in the dark. Do water changes, siphon out the crud that builds up on the bottom of the tub. Bacteria will eventually drive all the crud out of the rock.

When my friend was struggling with hair algae, he would do his weekly water change than with the old water that he took out of the tank he would pull the rocks out and scrub them down really good with a tooth brush in the water. Its more of a hassle but is a option.

i suggest get your GHA out of your tank and then add corals if you plan to do so because corals make things alot more complicated

My friend pulled rocks out that had sps corals on them. Pulling them out and doing a minute long scrub didn't seem to stress them out to much. I'm sure the corals weren't to happy but they survived and he got rid of the hair algae. Its a risk but at times is worth it.
