GFO - Granulated Ferric Oxide. It will be the easiest way to defeat Hair Algae. Order some at BulkReefSupply.com and you won't be disappointed.

Algae blenny could be an option if it isnt too long. I got one a couple days ago and that thing is a eating machine!

Im in the same boat bro, heres what ive done to help reduce GHA:

    1. I turned all my lights off for 2 days and reduced my lighting schedule after .
    2. added gfo in my HOB filters (media reactors are best for GFO)
    3. added blue leg hermits ( 10 of them in my 20 gallon)
    4. Do many water changes, siphoning most of it out.

I still have GHA in my tank although its ALOT less than it was lets say a month ago. Im very optimistic that this will, over time, solve my problem.

I wouldn't rely on any critter to eat the GHA. I've tried a bunch of neither of them made a real difference or could keep up even if they decided to eat it.

What I would do is address the water quality. Run GFO, get some RO/DI water and start using that and make sure it read 0TDS, otherwise you're adding nutrients in the water and being counter-productive. GFO will work fast, water changes it will slowly go away if you make consistent changes weekly, but keeping it up is sustainable.

I tried the lights out and that worked out very well in a one-bulk job. Do a complete lights out - towel around the tank and everything. Do this for a few days and then siphon out the GHA. For myself it came right up and I got tons of it out. Also befriend the toothbrush! It's the sword in a dueling battle trust me.

I have a 175 reef and had the same problem I tried all of the remedies stated here and it roughly cost me 100 dollars and in the end the only thing that worked was to take my tank down cleaned all my rock saved what I could and restarted my tank with only one change I had 4 inches of sand I cut it down to 1. I saved my water fish and corals.
One last note I reserved some live rock in a bucket outside it dried out and so did the algae but months later I got the rocks wet and this stuff came back to life. What I am trying to say is maybe its time for a cleaning, I am glad I did. My tank looks wonderful and healthy, good luck I only hope this helps its very sad when your hobby turns to work.
