hairy mushrooms dying

I was out with some friends for the night last night. before i left my house yesterday looked at my tank everything looked happy and healthy. i come home today and look in my tank and i think my hairy mushroom is dying. he's huge when fully expanded he's about 8 inches across. but he is now smaller and there is a hole right in the center of him almost like he's disintegrating. I don't know what to do. all parameters are perfect.

 

Mine does that when he is unhappy. Once I do a water change he perks right back up. The hole in the center is his mouth.

 

I know the center is the mouth, but it is actually disintegrating i can see the rock underneath the mushroom from the middle.

 

Ohhh, actually disintegrating. Yeah that does sound like it's dying. I don't have an answer for you.

 

yeah its just in two pieces now ha ha oh well. now i have two mushrooms. they aren't dead.... its wierd but they're fine i guess

 

it was just splitting and yes now there is 2 just like getting a free coral

 

When mine did that the first time i was thinking the same thing.

 

yeah I thought they were dying cause I have never seen mushrooms do that I have always seen them reproduce a little baby one right underneath it by the base of the large mushroom. Well none of the mushrooms died and Now i have 7 ha ha
